What Happens After You Enquire?
Not every officer wants to lease and that is completely fine. For police personnel who would rather own their vehicle outright, we also provide access to police car discounts on brand new purchases.
Common questions from police officers and staff about car leasing, eligibility, costs and how it compares to salary sacrifice.
For most police officers and staff, car leasing is worth it — particularly if you want a brand new, reliable vehicle without a large upfront purchase cost and without touching your police pension. Leasing gives you fixed monthly payments, manufacturer warranty, road tax included, and no depreciation risk. It works best when you cover high annual mileage, want a current model on rotation every 2 to 4 years, and prefer predictable monthly costs over ownership.
Police car leasing through Motor Source Leasing is a personal contract hire (PCH) arrangement. You pay a fixed monthly amount to use a brand new vehicle for an agreed term — typically 24 to 48 months. Road tax and manufacturer warranty are included. At the end of the term you return the vehicle. This is not salary sacrifice — your police pension is completely unaffected.
Any warranted police officer, PCSO, special constable, or civilian police staff member employed by a UK police force is eligible. There is no minimum rank requirement, no salary threshold, and no restriction by force. If you are employed by a UK police service, you qualify.
PCSOs are fully eligible for police car leasing. There is no restriction based on whether you are a warranted officer or a civilian member of police staff. Any PCSO employed by a UK police force can access police lease deals through Motor Source Leasing.
Monthly costs vary depending on the vehicle, lease term, mileage allowance, and initial rental. Road tax is included as standard. Smaller hatchbacks carry lower monthly rates; larger SUVs and premium models are higher. Key cost factors are the vehicle model and trim, lease term length (24 to 48 months), annual mileage allowance, initial rental amount, and whether an optional maintenance package is added. Use our affordability calculator to establish a comfortable budget before requesting a no-obligation quote.
Your mileage allowance is agreed at the start of your lease as an annual figure. Common options include 8,000, 10,000, 12,000 and 15,000 miles per year. A lower allowance reduces your monthly payment but exceeding it incurs per-mile excess charges. Officers who cover long commutes or work across multiple sites should factor total annual driving into the allowance. Personal mileage alone is rarely the whole picture.
No — insurance is not included as standard. You are required to arrange your own fully comprehensive motor insurance throughout the lease term. What is included as standard: road tax (VED) for the full lease term, and manufacturer warranty. Optional maintenance packages can add servicing and tyre cover but do not include insurance.
A wide range of electric vehicles is available through our police car leasing programme. EV leasing is one of the most practical routes into electric driving for officers and staff. You get a brand new EV at a fixed monthly cost with no depreciation risk when you return it at the end of the term. Browse available EV models.
Standard personal contract hire (PCH) leases do not include a purchase option. At the end of the lease term the vehicle is returned to the funder. This protects you from depreciation risk. If owning the car at the end matters to you, a new car purchase through Motor Source on PCP or HP may be more suitable.
Police car leasing makes most sense when your current vehicle is ageing or repair costs are rising, when you are joining the force and want predictable transport costs from day one, when you want to protect your police pension without salary sacrifice, when you want to try an electric vehicle without buying, when you need a vehicle quickly from in-stock availability, or when you are on a fixed-term contract and need a short-term solution.
